The year 2020 threw a doozy on all of us…..

But fret not !! with 2021 on the horizon, good things are bound to come around.

Whether you are celebrating New Years Eve with family, with close friends or over a zoom meeting, we all want to have a good time ushering in the new year at midnight. The key is to be responsible by maintaining social distancing norms while enjoying the evening.

Any celebration calls for the right setting and atmosphere. Here are some ideas from décor to party themes, that will help set the mood for the evening.

Clean and Safe Entry

Start the New Year’s Eve celebration on the right note by creating a sanitisation corner in your home’s entrance lobby. One can place a basket of extra masks along with sanitisers in this corner. Decorating the area with a mirror and a lamp will help to highlight the area and ensure that guests sanitise themselves before entering the house.

Create an Instagram Friendly Wall

Build a fringe backdrop in silver or gold as a simple yet effective(non-permanent) way to transform a wall. Hang and throw around some balloons in collaboration with the theme to add a pop of colour.

Alternatively, one can spell out quotes or phrases with balloons to share with everyone.

New Years Movie marathon

If you are planning to spend a low key New Years Eve in your favourite PJs, we’ve got you!!

One can create a Home theatre zone by throwing floor cushions, warm fuzzy carpets and pillows in front of the TV area. Wear matching PJ’s, set up a snack table in the middle, pop some champagne and enjoy a movie marathon till the clocks strikes for the new year.

Alternatively, throw a pajama themed party with friends where everyone’s dressed in their best and favourite PJ’s snacking on fudgy brownies and sipping hot cocoa.

Have a Virtual Dance Party

Ask everyone you are spending the New years eve with to choose a song and then turn it into a big playlist that everyone can virtually join and dance to.

Try Spotify to explore the shared playlist option.

Glitter and scented candle lights

Create the right ambience by lighting scented candles or tealights in decorative holders and place them around your party area. These will act as mood lighting and set the right atmosphere for the party.

String lights

Add some string lights around the house, left over from Diwali or Christmas to brighten up the space. We do recommend avoiding multiple colours and picking colours along the same tone to add a sophisticated touch to the decoration.

One can hang these lights on the walls or throw them around indoor planters or even line them along the dinner table as an alternative.

Bottles decorated with flowers

Put all those empty glass bottles from the lockdown period to good use by hanging them as pendants filled with flowers as part of new years eve decorations. It’s a best out of waste and Eco friendly alternative to buying new pendants or jars, and also saves one from a trip to the local market.

Food and games

Enjoy the evening with some new years themed food like countdown cupcakes or a cupcake tower. One can take it a step further by serving alcohol infused desserts -after all, its new years eve!

Similarly, the food can be themed to suit the décor or it can be an eclectic mix from around the world. The world can literally be on your platter for the evening.

Make the party interesting by playing some classic board games with your family and friends. And if you are celebrating virtually, we suggest Pictionary as an ideal game to be played.

New years Table

Whether you are celebrating with family, friends or having an intimate celebration with your significant other, the dinner table is the heart of the party.

One can decorate the table with a combination of themed colours such as white and silver or pink and gold to enhance the table setting. Bring out the best cutlery and crockery and place a decorative candle holder or a flower vase as centre piece.

Place enough chairs so that social distancing norms can be followed while having dinner, if inviting guests over. Leaving a chair between two people seated is an ideal seating situation.

Year in Rewind

Another year has come to an end, bringing the highs and lows with it. Share the special moments of the year, whether physically or virtually, with your loved ones as the year winds down.

Note:

Wishing a very happy new year to our family!

May the dawn of a new year bring immense love, joy and happiness to all.

Love,
