We spend almost a third of our lives in our bedrooms. Our comfort, experience and growth is highly influenced by our bedroom environment. We often forget while setting up a house, the long term effect it can have on the users perception towards the home.

We all know that the bedrooms can and should be more than simply a bed. It should include elements that make us feel relaxed and comfortable, as well as practical products like dressers and nightstands.

Of course, the specific layouts and furniture within a bedroom can be quite varied, depending on how much space you have and the elements that would make the space work best for you.

As such, when designing your bedroom decor, your first thoughts should typically be about the bedroom’s size. How much available space do you have in your master bedroom? What furniture would fit best in your layout? Is there anything that wouldn’t fit well but feels like an essential for your space?

Once this thinking is done, in order to fully determine what should be put in your master bedroom, you should next consider factors like your preferences and functionality. Is your bedroom going to be solely for sleeping and getting dressed? Or do you want any areas for doing work or hanging out?

Personal nooks and corners of a room

Lets discuss ahead how architecture and interior design of our bedrooms can affect our well being in the most optimum manner and we can then start using those concepts to make our rooms more aesthetically and psychologically pleasing.

Accessibility and Tidiness:

There's a reason our moms taught us to have neat rooms. Turns out, having a clear open path into the room, makes the room look more open and dynamic. keeping a room clean has some benefits on our mind after all;

It saves our effort and time later in the day,

Improves our memory about where things are kept

This in turn helps in decreasing our stress and discomfort

This helps mostly the kids to help have better organisation and learning ability.

Functional and flexible:

Use multi-functional furniture. Its easier to keep things compartmentalized while using storage that can be modern and chic at the same time. Lets see how different rooms can be done up by being both functional and flexible.

Master bedroom : Functionality of a master bedroom remains very basic. The design is minimal and speaks volume, with just the right lighting and furniture placement. Add floating shelves. This helps to declutter but also increases floor space in a modern fashion. The shelves colours can be matched with the wall colours.

Children's bedroom : Overdoing a theme is one of the biggest mistakes that could be made when creating a child’s bedroom. Sure, the race car bed might excite them for a few months, but they will get bored of it quickly. Rooms that have the right amount of novelty and stimulation exude a freshness that gives the home a creative energy with a modern sense that will inspire your child’s inner growth.

You can also opt for furniture that can be easily moved or wall art that can be switched out over time. Making use of funky beanbags or asymmetrical bookshelves. Creating a separate reading corner for them to sit in separated from their bed.

Study room : If at all this room is there, the functionality of the room is very basic. The furniture tends to be minimal with a writing table and chair. Lighting in these rooms has to be maximum as per the user demands. Decoration should stick to multi-functional storage for books and offices items and maps.

If its just a study corner in one room, be sure to have maximum lighting on the table and floating shelved storage to avoid clutter.

Natural Appeal

Including nature into our homes evokes peace and calm and makes room more welcoming. It is a design aesthetic that has failed to live down with the years. some ways to induce serenity in any bedrooms are;

using textures such as fiber upholstery or woollen rugs

Glass windows so the outside world can be more easily seen and influenced by

wall panels or shelves

indoor house plants

using more nature colour panel on the wall with one wall as an accent feature

Making use of hardwood flooring or carpeted increases the appeal of the bedroom.

Colour

We discussed on the colour aspect of the rooms on our previous blog article.

Colours are important to focus on as they heavily dominate our moods and with most of our time spent in the bedrooms itself, it is important to have a colour selected that would be good to us.

Mainly focusing on only one wall colour as accent wall helps to keep our focus in the room.

Lighter and brighter colors, like red, yellow and green are excellent for stimulating creativity and spirit. While pastels and rustic hues like beige and gray bring tranquility and calmness.

With the help of LED lighting, you can customize the feel and atmosphere of your room using your smart phone. These are easy to install with wide variety of color choices.

You can also make use of a minimalist colour tone on the wall and keep your decorations and shelved a different colour pop to make the room stand out and look more lively.

Light

One of biggest influences in a room is lighting. A simple and effective solution to finding the healthy balance of light in your bedroom is to have appropriate size and number of windows, along with blackout curtains and drapes that match. A dimmer switch can be installed in the light switch to ensure that you have controlled lighting.

It is important to understand the amount of lighting required to each room. A study room, for example, demands more lighting just over the table but a kid's room requires an even distribution all around.

Definition of You!

The decor that you use in your master bedroom should directly correlate with the rest of the space, in terms of styles and colors. Otherwise, your space will begin to feel mismatched and cluttered. This is especially true when dealing with small master bedrooms, as these have a tendency to feel cramped to begin with.

You can bring about your own personalities by adding these entities or decorating them with posters or lights on the wall.

  • Reading corners under skylights with the simulation of nature sounds (river streams, heavy thunderstorms, birds singing, etc.)

  • Interactive smart wall to display drawings and designs

  • Soundproof area for playing musical instruments

  • Customizable walk-in closet

  • Display shelves to showcase novelties that reflect you.

Here are some ideas to add a personal touch to your bedrooms:

  • Mezzanine (sleeping and lounging quarters separated from creative areas)

  • Secret closet or room. (could be an addition to kids room)

  • Sleeping quarters with windows or walls that can change from transparent glass to frosted glass.

  • Partition walls that separate the room into different function areas

Our bedrooms should reflect who we are. It could be in the way we keep our furniture or the colours we choose our rooms to be in. All too often, the world is filled with unrelenting anxiety, and keeping those confusions out of the home can ensure that your home really is your haven. Play with patterns, mix up your furnishings, put odd items on the wall, and shuffle things around. Having a sense of adventure when it comes to your home can also give it a significantly different tenor.

Its important to keep all the elements in a room come together. Its often hard to describe an experience of a room but it may be easier to understand what gives you the right vibe and good energy to make it your own space.
